Take 90 seconds to write three things you think every student today needs to thrive in the 21st century.

Partner up with “eye contact” partner.

Visit for another next 90 seconds, look at the six things on each other’s cards, discuss them, and, together, decide on what is the single most important thing and circle that one thing.

What I want to learn about my Google account:

How to create a new document

Go to “Drive” in the black tool bar, then select red button “Create” select the type of document you’re looking to create.

Favorite google forms? ( parents letters, Open House etc.)

Forms have a wide variety of uses.  We’re going to cover some examples during Session II training.  Forms with scripting (e.g. formEmailer, autoCrat) can be very powerful tools for automating routine tasks and communication.

Forward emails

Transferring emails from old email account to new school email

Forwarding a received email, simply select ‘forward’ instead of ‘reply’

But, if you’re thinking from your old Yahoo account to new fmeMontana.net, then you should  read below for more information.

Note, that there have been some recent changes by Yahoo that might not support email forwarding unless you are willing to pay.  I would simply just start using your FMEmontana mail, and notifying folks of your new email.

Using LastPass password generator between various medium

LastPass is a web-based tool, so is works as an extension on your Chrome browswer, however, there are also app versions for iOS and Android, but these are paid features.

I’d encourage you to check out their Features Page.

How to find documents

Can always use “search bar.”  Organize into folders.  Don’t forget “shared with me”

Multiple account sign in

Here are step-by-step instructions, let me know if you need assistance.

Should we all be in a circle?

Again, in short, YES.  Circles are simply a way for you (they are custom to personally) to organize your PLNs for easy connection and sharing.  Create circles according to how you think about things.  I.e.  Staff, Friends, Technology, Cat-lovers, Biking…etc.

Using google calendars/having a separate calendar for SPED appointments with specific invitees as well as a school calendar

Again, excellent topic.  I’ll be covering this in detail during Session II, so check there for continued resources.

How do you connect to people

Global address book will let you email to anyone in the fmeMontana.net domain.  You can also ‘connect’ with teachers using the Google + tool.

How do I move existing documents into google drive

From “Drive” use the “upload” icon, right next to the “Create” button.  This will allow you to upload any type of file to be stored in the cloud.  Many document types (word, spreadsheet, PDF) can be converted into Google version upon upload.  The advantage is they are then able to be edited/shared/etc. vs just viewed or downloaded.

Google websites

Perfect…that’s what we’ll be covering in Session II

What is the point of Google+?

The short answer is…To connect with a vast Personal Learning Network-PLN that you can customize to your interests.  It also allows for collaborative connections with these networks as well as your fmeMontana staff via Hangouts and archived sessions.  Perhaps this could be a future topic for trainings??

Import email and contacts from another email provider

If you’re switching to Gmail from another email provider like Yahoo!, Hotmail, or AOL, Gmail has a handy tool to help you move over your old emails and contacts. If you also want to avoid having to check your mail in two places, this feature also enables you to forward messages from your previous email provider to your Gmail account for 30 days.

This tool doesn’t work for other Gmail accounts. Use mail fetcher to get mail from another Gmail account instead.

To get started, follow the steps below. Before you begin, keep in mind that you’ll need to have access to the other email account for this process to work:

  1. Click the gear icon  in the top right-hand corner of your inbox, then select Settings.
  2. Under the Accounts and Import tab, click the Import mail and contacts link.
  3. This will start a setup flow. After you finish, it may take some time for it to import, but you can check the status of your import by going back to the the Accounts and Import tab on the Settings page.

Note: If you’re using Google Apps and don’t see this setting, contact your administrator to enable users to import mail from Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, or other webmail or POP accounts. For more information, click here. The import will only migrate messages you’ve received, not messages you’ve sent.
